Employer’s Claim Management, Inc. is pleased to spotlight the safety efforts of Alabama Self-Insured Worker’s Compensation Fund member Available Plastics, Inc.

Available Plastics Company, Inc. was founded in 1978 and is a leading manufacturer in the PVC industry. Typical products include custom run plastic pipe, plastic cores, tubes and profiles. Located in Huntsville, Alabama Available Plastics Company, Inc. currently performs their operations with three shifts and a total of 78 employees.

The company utilizes the latest manufacturing technologies and premium grade, high quality PVC materials to manufacture its products which are specifically designed to provide high impact resistance and greater performance. The company offers a variety of grades of PVC ranging from material cores to cable conduit to vacuum tubing to furniture grade PVC pipe. They specialize in cost effective PVC solutions that meet their customer’s unique requirements and specifications.

Available Plastics has been a member of the Alabama Self-Insured Worker’s Compensation Fund since 1990 and is currently receiving both premium credits offered by the Alabama Self-Insured Worker’s Compensation Fund. The required elements include:

Drug and Claim Management Premium Credit Program (5% credit)

  • Designated medical care provider for the treatment of workplace injuries
  • Timely claims reporting
  • Post-accident drug testing
  • Return to work program for injured employees

Safety Management Premium Credit Program (5% credit)

  • Written safety policy statement
  • Designated safety coordinator
  • Written safety rules and regulations
  • Safety training and meetings
  • Accident investigation and loss analysis

Available Plastics, Inc. is dedicated to providing a safe workplace for their employees. Employees are first introduced to the Company safety policies and procedures at the direction of Controller, John Williams, as part of a new employee safety orientation program. Safety efforts are reinforced through supervisor accountability and periodic employee safety meetings. In addition, top management support is routinely demonstrated under the leadership of the President, Mr. Steve Brown with assistance from Wayne Bent COO, Exec. Vice President and Ms. Lisa Cobb. Plant Manager, Anthony Peavy and the Maintenance Supervisor, Tim Howell are also actively involved in the day to day management of the safety program and plan to be more involved in the future. This includes employee safety training, hazard recognition and strict enforcement of Company policies regarding personal protective equipment (PPE). These efforts are paying off as the Company is now enjoying an EMR of 0.76 which represents better then average loss experience and a significant premium savings. Available Plastics, Inc. has been a Service Account since Fund year 2011 and is serviced by Technical Resource Representative Mike Bowman.
